ARTIST REPRESENTING CANADA
"A Bulb in the Garden" - Brownwen's Garden 19 x 35" Acrylic on canvas with Goldleaf Framed
These paintings below are from my trip to the coast of France. A little village called Etretat..it is just above the coast of Normandy..I had always seen this image in all my art books and never quite realized how lucky I am to have been able to go to this place..My mother was also an artist and she gave me my Ahh moment when she placed her pastels from France into my hands in 1991...I have never been the same since..I study all the time and perhaps take myself back into the Impressionists days of struggling with my creativity that takes all my days and nights into a delightful journey..sometimes painful but none the less - look what comes out..

I am a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of Canada..thus I represent Canada in all competitions in USA and Europe..How does one find out about these competitions? Well, study the art magazines or go on the websites..Each society has a juried competition..to enter one pays a fee to be juried..
Jurors take less then a second to select as I have seen it time after time in New York..Sometimes I have entered three competitions during a year - three paintings each and they must not be seen by the public..so they sit in my shelves for months waiting for the results..
When my paintings are accepted I am thrilled..Now the costly part is shipping with a beautiful frame matted with glass to far away places..My paintings are not small..
While I have dedicated myself to the thrill of exhibits to many places..I have never had any support for my craft from Canada itself..We do have a Canada Council but I have never had any luck with them..They are to support the arts..but as a pastel artist and a realist this is not working for me..
I am currently doing a pastel for a competition with the Pastel Society of America in New York..jury submission is in July.
Right now I cannot send the submission because of finances..so I am asking for help...This person can be from any where in the world..
Otherwise my new pastels will sit in a drawer waiting to see the light..
Fir Tree on the Coast of British Columbia Framed Acrylic on Canvas 11 x 23" $975.00
Mayne Island - Original Pure Pastel Painting Unframed $2,780.00
While in Evetot, France exhibiting with other European artists..some Russian artists were talking about how difficult it was to get into a very strict juried competition coming up in Poland..Well, I said to myself..I wonder if a Canadian can get in....The above painting I created after seeing an open air market on Mayne Island..7 July 2008 I received word that my pastel was accepted into the 4th International Biennial of Pastels - Nowy Sacz, Poland. Of the 533 pastels submitted only 193 were selected. The Jury decided your work titled: "Mayne Island in B.C" is qualified to the Biennial. Members of the Jury Krzystof Kulis, Prof. Jan Pamula, Prof. Stanislaw Tabisz, Janusz Trzebiatowski, Barbara Szafran..
I spent my childhood summers on Skaha Lake in the Okanagan Valley. This is where I met artist Toni Onley..my mother met him in the grocery store with his parents whom where living in Penticton and he had just arrived from England..She invited him back for dinner as she knew he was an artist..thus at 13 years old I started sketching the corn flowers with him using charcoal and sitting in the sand doons of Skaha Lake.
Really I am not the greatest writer but I have had a most interesting life related to my art world..
Whytecliff Park is in West Vancouver on the Coast..one can climb on the stones or just have a lovely picnic and perhaps see a Cruise liner pass by..
I love these paintings of the Okanagan as they are as fresh as a new cherry in season..

I walk in Lynn Valley in North Vancouver..it is truly lovely to be among all the trees and flora. This painting below on the left is originally four by five feet tall..
I had it made into a Giclee Canvas Wrapped Print and now everyone can have one in their home or office.
The pastel on the right was done while I visited a lavender farm in Naramata near Penticton..This girl grew all these special plants and her dog Harper would follow her around..it is a lovely piece..
